If you gave up after the first bok, I encourage you to try again. This is a young author (I assume) who is growing quickly. The first book is predictable, but the second shows real growth and the third demonstrates an impressive future for this author. Some authors simply need time. Dave Duncan's early efforts left a lot to be desired, but his later works blossomed to compare with Terry Brooks, Terry Goodkind and I expect Dave Garland. I've been a fan of sci-fo4 fantasy since 1964 when I first read The Lord of the Rings in England. Since then, I've read 100's of books in the genre and although this effort is only a start, it's a promising one. I can see the growth within this series and I hope the future bodes well for Ken.Product details

I stumbled upon this series and was instantly captivated! It is a nice blend of fantasy and science fiction. The story is well written and full of exciting adventure as it explores the choices we all face as we fight the darkness that would seek to invade our souls. Enjoyed the books tremendously and look forward to more!
I went back and forth between 4 stars and five. A very creative tale with plenty of different ideas. I enjoyed all 3 books and will be reading the others soon. Character development is good and the story flows well. I recommend this to any one into the sci/fi fantasy genre. It actually has both elements in it, even though I would say it leans heavily to the fantasy side.
Lozito has created a believable world with engaging characters. The unique blend of technology with magic kept me guessing about which would prove to become most important in the battle. There is a need for better editing as there wee many typos throughout the books and at least one instance where the character was misidentified. Easy fixes, but a little annoying. I do recommend this set to anyone who enjoys losing him/her self in magical adventures!
Fortunately for those of us who like to read a lot, there was a lot to read. Surely, it is an exciting story of worlds in conflict, of people being consumed by the thirst of power no matter what it means to others, and examples of those who try to protect. A good story indeed.
I'd been seeing the books show up as suggestions for months and after finally running the all of the selections from some of favorite writers, I bought these on a whim...OH BOY!!! I think the true skill of a writer comes through when he has a hero who could easily flex his skills of badassery, but lets us all enjoy his growth and flaws. Way to turn formulaic writing on its ear Ken!!
Great merger of magic and sci-fi and has a well done but overused plot of Hero comes from Earth and saves their world. I gave it 5 stars up until the end of the first book. I hated how the first bookended and Aaron the main character pissed me off. The 2nd and 3rd books were good but I could never cheer on Aaron after that. If Sarah would have died I would probably give this 4 stars. I like a story where I can cheer on the main character and that was lost by the ending of book 1 but overall it was still worth reading.
Although the plot got off to a rather slow start, this was solved in books 2 and 3. There were moments of real genius in describing action scenes, but the book suffers from some rather stilted language and the incorrect use of words which detracts from the overall flow of the plot and enjoyment of reading. The hero, and his birth family are somewhat one dimensional since they are without flaws or any kind of angst which is normal for most human beings. The plot saves what otherwise would be a waste of time to read. It's quite exciting, with good use of suspense and description. I enjoyed how he portrayed dragons in a different way than in any other fantasy novel I've read.
